What is an Instagram grid post?
A grid post (sometimes called a puzzle feed or split image) is one large photo cut into multiple tiles that you publish as separate posts. Viewed individually, each tile is a normal post, but on your profile, the tiles line up to form one large, scroll-stopping image across your grid.
Brands and creators use grid splits for launches, announcements, portfolio pieces, and profile makeovers. Because Instagram's profile view is the first thing a potential follower sees, a well-planned grid instantly signals that an account is intentional and worth following.
The right way to publish a split grid
Instagram displays your newest post in the top-left corner of your profile, which means grid tiles must be published in reverse: the bottom-right tile goes first, and the top-left tile goes last. Our grid maker numbers every tile with its correct posting order so you never have to think about it.

Instagram grid sizes and dimensions in 2026
Instagram switched profile grids from square 1:1 thumbnails to taller 3:4 tiles, which broke a lot of old grid splits.
